Our latest release is the
Geater Davis
album
I'll Play The Blues For You (SSCD 7011)
featuring his legendary House of Orange masters produced by Allen
Orange. The album has extensive liner notes by Jeff Kuhn and will
appeal to southern soul and blues fans in equal measures. Both Davis
and Orange are deceased. |
|
Due in July is our long-awaited Doris Allen
album A Shell Of A Woman (SSCD 7012) which features all her
Minaret, SSS and Emerald Coast recordings - including the duets with
Big John Hamilton - and previously unreleased tracks
discovered in the vaults of Playground Recording Studio in
Valparaiso, Florida. The album has detailed liner notes by Paul
Mooney. |
|
STOP PRESS: We
regret to report the sad news that Doris Allen passed
away recently after a long illness. The news was confirmed by a
relative just weeks before her album A Shell Of A Woman
is due to be released. Doris was a very talented and
much-loved singer who didn't make the big time but established
a strong 'underground' following. She will be missed by her
family, friends and fans. |
 |
Other albums scheduled for release on Soulscape include
classic sets by southern soul artists Sam Baker,
Ella Washington, Roscoe Robinson and Big John Hamilton.
Watch out for more details. |

HISTORY |
|
From 2000 to early 2007 Soulscape
founder Garry J Cape was a partner in Grapevine Music Group and was
responsible for business affairs, licensing and general operations.
During that period Grapevine issued thirty-five CDs and seventy 45s. |
|
He brought to Grapevine the
popular America's Most
Wanted series and the Malaco / Muscle Shoals Sound deals which resulted in
CD albums of previously unissued material by southern soul giants
George Jackson and Phillip Mitchell. Garry was also responsible for the
highly acclaimed Unmasked
album
by The Masqueraders and several other compilations including those
in the New Orleans Soul and Chicago Soul series. |
 |
|
Garry
was previously one of the premier English
soul record dealers and he made almost a hundred buying trips to the
USA until he
sold
his inventory in 2005. |
|
In the 1990s he had operated the Black Grape label
and before that - in the '70s - the Hit and Run and Special Agent labels. |
 |
Apart from his
forty-year involvement with
soul music, Garry also enjoys classic country
music and contemporary 'Americana'. |
|
His favourite
non-music pursuits include collecting vintage Nat Nast and Tommy
Bahama shirts, wearing shorts for as much of the year as
possible and travelling the American backroads - enjoying Gulf
Coast seafood,
BBQ and
Texas beer. |
